The objective of this internship is to learn the fundamentals of ski mountaineering: knowing how to use crampons, ice axes and rope to ensure ski mountaineering and to be safe. Between edges and corridors you will refine your technique and your knowledge on the subject during 3 days rich in exchange and feedback. The Aravis training ground of the big names of the discipline we will offer in an incredible playground to evolve on educational and alpine routes.

Program

DAY 1- THE BASICS OF SKI MOUNTAINEERING

Theoretical briefing: Finding the right route, the right orientation / Choosing your route and your timetable / What equipment to bring / Identifying the difficulties

Knowing your limits and how to give up.
Preparing your equipment and saving weight
Putting on skis, taking off skis and putting on crampons.
Protecting yourself and staying safe
Using a rope to secure yourself, roping up.
Using mountaineering equipment
Progressing with ice axes and crampons
DAY 2 - SKI MOUNTAINEERING TECHNIQUES.

Theoretical briefing: choice of route, orientation, timetable.
Equipment to bring.
Setting up anchors and belays: Lunule, corps mort, ejectable ice axe....
Setting up an abseil
Abseiling with skis on or crampons on
Belay techniques for descending and ascending with a rope.
Backing up a skier, slope test.
Stopping a fall
Turning around and climbing


DAY 3 - EVOLVING ON A SKI MOUNTAINEERING COURSE

Preparing for the race
Application course between 1300m and 1800m
Independent ascent and descent of a ridge
Crossing technical passages
Practical application
Debriefing

Good to know about the training
Ski mountaineering courses-Massif des Aravis

The price includes
- Supervision by a mountain guide
- The avalanche safety equipment loan (DVA + SHOVEL + PROBE) possibly.

Required level on ski
Level S4 Advanced
• Technical downhill skiing ability: Very good skier on all types of terrain, including frozen and crusty snow. I can ski down slopes with a gradient of up to 40°.
• Ability to ski in all types of snow: Very good control, including in difficult conditions (deep powder, crust, ice).
• Technical level uphill: I regularly practise climbing and have mastered kick turns.
• Physical level: I can walk for between 2 and 4 hours with equipment and a bag weighing 4–5 kg or more. Estimated ascent speed: 300 to 500 m/h.
• General experience and frequency of practice: Regular ski touring, with experience on technical routes.
• Type of outing: More technical and varied routes.
• Approximate duration: Up to 8 hours including ascent and descent.
