Program

Pedagogical objectives

Acquire basic knowledge of cartography and orientation/navigation to be autonomous during field trips

  • Learn to read an IGN map
  • Learn how to use your compass, altimeter
  •  Plan and organize an itinerary

Day 1: Mapping and orientation

Meet at the cross-country ski centre on the plateau des Glières at 9am. Presentation of the training.

We will address the fundamentals of mapping and orientation through theoretical exercises and practical applications in the field.

End of the day around 5pm.

Day 2: Progress and navigation

Meet at the cross-country ski centre on the plateau des Glières at 9am.

We leave this day for a day hike. This will allow us to discuss planning and navigation concepts. The hike (of moderate difficulty, maximum 700m of altitude difference for a maximum of 6 hours of walking) will also be an opportunity to test the knowledge acquired on the first day.

End of the internship around 5pm.

The theory and most of the course will take place outside (depending on the weather conditions, we may have to take shelter in a cottage on the plateau to discuss the theoretical part of the course).
