Advanced ski touring course - Aravis Mountains

Improvement on ski touring-Aravis Range

The Grand Bornand & La Clusaz Aravis Ski Resort region is a haven of peace in winter... Far from the fury of the great ski resorts, the discerning hiker will encounter chamois, ibex, variable hare, and if he looks up to the sky, the impressive bearded vulture! Blow, close your eyes, you will only hear your breath, and the silence of the mountain... It is in this kingdom of tranquility that our guides invite you to discover ski touring, through this rich and authentic heritage of the Grand Bornand valley. The Col de Balafrasse, facing East, is located in the Bargy mountain range, between the Pic de Jallouvre and the Pointe du Midi: an ideal position to admire the Aravis mountain range in front of it, and enjoy the soft colors of early morning ski!

Program

For this ski touring training session, our high mountain guides will take you to the Grand Bornand area and the Bargy. Located about 30 km from Annecy, the resort of Grand Bornand is ideal for nature lovers and ski mountaineers!

Depending on your experience and the level of the group, the guide will adapt the outing in order to give you all the keys to help you progress in your technique, both up and down. The main objective of this ski touring trip is obviously to have fun and also to find the best snow for the descent! As a connoisseur and expert of the ski area, the guide will choose an ideal ski touring itinerary to enable you to make the most of the slopes and combes that this sector of the Bornes-Aravis-Bargy massif offers. The Col de Balafrasse, the Col du Rasoir or the Tête d'Auferrand could be the best objectives depending on the local snow conditions and the weather.

For a successful improvement outing, you will evolve on slopes of about 35°, with differences in altitude of up to 1000 meters. The guide in charge of the group will take the time to review all the techniques that will allow you to progress in downhill skiing but also to pass on his precious knowledge concerning the observation of the terrain, the quality of the snow etc. Once you have acquired this knowledge you will be able to extend your experience with more difficult outings!

Level required for this session: Level 2 - INTERMEDIATE.

A little tip for friendliness
Here, we share the mountains in good spirits! There's nothing like meeting up for a coffee in Thônes before starting the day.
And for those who want to add a local touch to the summit, feel free to bring something from the region to share:

a piece of Reblochon cheese,
a bottle of Savoyard red wine,
or a little Génépi to celebrate the outing (in moderation, of course).

This will make your ski touring trip even more authentic and enjoyable!
